ok i've been thinking about how to answer The Color Asks for so long now. Once I start talking about colors I never stop, it seems. This is just me attempting to explain my personal thought process and not any universal rules or anything like that.

None of this is going to look very realistic at all. You need to exaggerate a little. That being said, having fundamental knowledge on how shadows and ligh tsources work is very useful. Know the rules before breaking them and all that.

Boiled down to its basics, what I think of is: if a lightsource is cold toned, make the highlight bright blue. if a light source is warm, make the highlight bright orange. Then contrast the light with a complementary shadow color that does not compete for dominance with the light. Or alternatively make the light source more neutral with a complimentary tone for the shaded areas and then add a highly saturated color in the deepest shadows. Having both a highly saturated light source and a shadow color will compete with each other, instead choose one to be the dominant and one to be the um. submissive i suppose.

Just using a random doodle from my sketchbook for the purpose of throwing some color on:

^^^ Here the midtones and the areas in the shade are predominantly of a low saturated cool blueish tone, while the highlight is stark and warm with orange and red light bouncing off. The orange and red hues you often see in skin that is lit by a strong light is called subsurface scattering (sss), one of the most important concepts in art IMO. It livens things up so much.

^^^Opposite from image 1, here the shaded area is a saturated golden color while the light source is a dull blue with hints of more vivid blue throughout. the blue balances the strong yellows and browns. Since the shaded area is bigger than the highlighted area, the subject matter could look quite monochromatic without the blue hints.

^^^Get wild with it. Lets say your highlight is blue toned: instead of just using a blue, introduce purple, teal, turquoise, ultramarine, cyan, etc around where the light is hitting. Add several light sources in different colors, make it not make sense, get crazy.

Though what is important above all else is that the image reads clearly. Unless you're doing abstract art then you'd probably want the audience to understand what they're looking at. That's where values come in, probably the number one cause of confusing pieces of art. If you can turn the painting black and white and still see the subject matter clearly then the values are good.

I find that i love using colors that most people find garish, especially when they're on their own, for small highlights and points of interest. When paired with other more neutral colors, a bright orange or a chartreuse etc can really brighten up a painting. And colors are never what they seem, the human eye will interpret colors differently depending on what color they are next to. Make full use of this.

Not exactly a "willing" regressor: she's stuck reliving the "confession" day of a schlocky school romance novel (which it turns out she's the amnesiac author of) except instead of the confession happening a sudden zombie apocalypse sweeps over the school! Basically she keeps reliving the day after each of her (many deaths) until she eventually decides to give up on forcing the canon happy ending to happen and instead focuses on trying to save her classmates -- all of whom were stereotypical bullies of the "sweet" protagonist -- so she first has to actually reach out to them and earn their trust. Also like, she really only gets her feet under her and starts succeeding when she decides to try to save someone who she has an actual connection with and doesn't just view as (a) a character and (b) a character who is supposed to save *her* helpless damsel of a transmigrated role at that. Like, no, Chaerin is going to be the hero thank you very much, lmao.

Anyways, It's a really beautiful exploration of reaching out for true connection when depressed, and also SO SO sapphic-coded <3. Anyways, Huisu/Chaerin is incredibly clever and tough (we love a manipulative badass queen), but also smart enough to know when to delegate -- ultimately her emotional growth and journey to letting other people in and realization that not only can she not do everything herself, but it's unfairly arrogant to try, is so beautiful. She rocks back onto her foot, cocking out her hip. "What?" She crosses her arms. "What does it matter if I'm in his room? Or (------)'s room? Or any other guy's room–"

(-----) lets out a humorless chuckle. "So, you're just a slut now, huh?" He mutters, turning his back on Caroline before shoving his key into his truck door.

Shyan Shipping Society - Reverse Bang 2023

hey y’all!

the shyan shipping society is incredibly excited to announce our first ever reverse bang! a reverse bang is like a big bang, but in reverse! artists will sign-up to complete art first, and then authors will claim art to write a fic about, and then we'll post both in a masterlist!

the rules:

please be mindful of the timeline as this is a commitment. failure to complete the event without giving the mods a proper heads up may result in not being able to participate in sss events in the future

drawn art should include at least lineart and written work should be at least 1k words. of course, feel free to go over this and create to your heart’s content!

[JP] 9th NRC Unified Exams

March 24th, 16:00 to April 4th, 14:59 (JST)

Requirement to participate: Finish Story Chapter 1 (Heartslabyul)

Unified Exams work similarly to Tests, but you can bring a friend’s support card. There are 5 different battles (1 for each element, usually 3 Basic and 2 Defense) and the total score from all 5 battles gives you a rank from F to SSS.

You can battle 10 times a day and each win rewards you with 4 medals. You can also get medals when friends use your support character (so we recommend having your best card for support). It’s 1 medal per support used and the max you can get is 10. So it’s possible to get up to 50 medals a day.

The table below shows the final rewards your total score will net you at the end of the exam period:

Crowley Medals can be used in the Event Shop to buy multiple items and the best part is that you don’t have to use up all your medals right away, you can save them for the next exam.

Magical Key Set includes: 2 keys and 3 AP refill S

Card Set includes: 10 AP refill L and 30k madol

Book Sets include: 8 notepads, 4 textbooks and 2 grimoires

History Lesson Set includes: 1 AP refill L and 3 macarons/waffles/cupcakes

Flying Lesson Set includes: 1 AP refill L and 3 sugar cubes/waffles/cupcakes

Alchemy Lesson Set includes: 1 AP refill L and 3 popcorn/cupcakes/card cookies

Apparently SSS is the “best family”, “strongest family” and all that. They’re the “happiest” family and should get more screen time. And then SSS fans go and hate on NH family because Naruto slept on the couch a few times and he’s rarely ever home and Hinata is a “submissive slut” and Hima and Boruto are “ugly”.

These come from the people who think Shinachiku (NS) shoulda happened.

Lies they are the worse, they aren't the strongest cause both Sakura and Sarada are useless and Sasuke actively avoids Sakura and Sarada while Sarada got traumatised cause Sasuke abandoned them for 10+ years and her mother couldn't even prove she married Sasuke.

Naruto sleeps on the couch to not wake anyone else. Hinata understands how hard Naruto works and how important the role of Hokage is.

Those people don't realise it would be even worse with Sakura has she would punch and insult Naruto all the time, she would be an abusive wife and if Naruto doesn't turn submissive they would end up arguing all the time scaring the children.

I'm just kinda laughing rn because of the basic idea for the 3rd anniversary cards.

Like, how does Marius end up getting tied up? Did he ask Rosa to do it? Paxton? Vincent? The idea is hilarious to think about. "Vincent, you need to tie it tighter!"

Also, Luke. How did Luke end up getting caught with his hands in handcuffs? Surely, he could've seen it coming with his reflexes? I have a hard time imagining that he was like: "Okay, you can put the cuffs on now."

Vyn, I'm so confused about. Why are we getting the view of a supervillain looking down on a trap that they put the main character through? Is the piano in a basement or something? Was the key to that room thrown away? What is with this view? Lol

Artem's makes sense, but uh, isn't that a very precarious place? Like, the law books are placed all over the place. If you move it, I feel like everything would fall over in an avalanche of books. What a way to go, right? Cause of death: Books. LOL

luke is also easily the second funniest. the only way i can remotely see this happening is if it was on purpose or if he was showing off how he could break out of cuffs and then failing at it which. i kinda hope its the latter that'd be unironically hilarious.

VYN'S MAKES ME FEEL INSANE BC THE PIANO IS INACCURATE. YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THIS SSS CARD REQUIRES DUPES FOR INTERACTIVITY AND TO UNLOCK EVERYTHING AND THEY CANT EVEN GET THE PIANO RIGHT. LIKE. I HAVE TO LAUGH. also the idea of piano sex makes me ill why would you do that to a perfectly good piano who is cleaning that UP
